iPhone 2.1 firmware Unlock & Jailbreak Issues

22 11 2008

I have received quite a number of comments and email from T-mobile users about jailbreak issues when they’re trying to unlock & jailbreak iPhone 2.1 using QuickPwn.

Issues reported are:

  • Have a tmobile carrier in the upper left corner with full bars
  • Only see the emergency call screen
  • Not able to get past the emergency call screen

It seems the above issues are particularly for T-mobile iPhones. For other SIMs, I seldom heard of the problems. According to iPhone Hacks forum, who pointed about a possible solution for these T-mobile issues on Jailbreak. Quoted from their source, here is the suggested fix:

-Using Itunes 8 download the 2.1 restore file, or you can dl it from a third party as long as it is the correct file.
-Next uninstall Itunes 8
-Next install Itunes 7.7.1.11
-Next locate the iTunes Library.itl file and DELETE IT (other wise Itunes 7 will not open)
-Next INSERT YOUR TMOBILE SIM before doing the restore
-Next restore your firmware to 2.1 in the manner shown in the quickpwn instructions
-Next continue to follow the quickpwn instructions exactly

The solution above may possible for T-mobile users. As the author pointed out, you may not need to downgrade iTunes. The point here is you should INSERT YOUR T-MOBILE SIM before doing any firmware restore.

As I’m not a T-mobile user, I cannot test out the solution. If you have tried the above solution, please leave comment and share with us your result. This would be great for others who are still stuck with these issues.

I have Tmobile also and experiencing difficutlies trying to run this software. I have done this three times and end up each time with a message “Different SIM detected Please connect to ITunes.”
this then loops me. I reread your instructions, follow them exactly and then try it again only to end up at the same place. I have my simcard in, no luck. i then place the non functioning AT&T card in and it works, without service of course. But it does access the internet thru my wifi.

any suggestions?

Hi Brian..

If you still had same problem like “Different Sim Card Detected” by iTunes after unlock & Jailbreak process..seems your iPhone is not unlocked yet. Pull out your SIM and go to Cydia. Download Bootneuter and launch it after installation. Choose the following settings in Bootneuter:

Bootloader version 3.9/4.6 (use default)
neuter = on
fakeblank = off
unlock = on

Flash it to unlock your iPhone..
hopefully its working…

OR

Put in your “Tmobile” and launch BootNeuter form Cydia..

OR

still not working..you have to rejailbreak again..

OR you may check my post here about Tmobile users
