Amazon Kindle Store Are Optimizes For iPhone

24 05 2009

kindle_for_iphoneiconAmazon released a Kindle application for iPhone that lets you purchase Kindle-based book and read it on iPhone. If you have read my review on Amazon’s Kindle app, you probably know at that time, the Kindle store is not designed for iPhone. The Kindle app itself is great but the Kindle store is not easily to navigate and definitely drags customers away from purchasing books.

Just take a look at the old Kindle store, will you zoom in and out to shop around? Definitely not.

Now, Amazon achieves a great milestone for Kindle store, which is now optimized for iPhone Safari. As you launch the Kindle app and tap “Get Books” button, the app will take you to the iPhone-optimized Kindle store. The user experience is much better than the old one. It’s just simpler, less clutter and easier to navigate.

The home screen of Kindle store is pretty simple with just a search box and a few options that let you browse books by categories or look for top sellers. However, you may feel a bit strange when you perform a book search. Instead of displaying the search result inside the app, Kindle app shows the book result in iPhone’s Safari. After that, you can continue to navigate the store in Safari and buy books by using Amazon’s 1-click purchase.

Once the you purchase a book or download a sample chapter, the book is automatically downloaded right into your iPhone. And, you can immediately start reading it using the Kindle app. The iPhone-optimized Kindle store is a great improvement and definitely can attract more iPhone users to purchase Kindle books. But, it’s still not perfect. What I expect is a seamless experience that I can purchase books right inside in the Kindle app. Probably in a very near future, Amazon will take my request into account and rolls out a perfect Kindle app.
